It displays your current position on a zoomable map and can be used to search for and route to roads or points of interest of your liking. As all data is stored in a compact binary format on your phone you will incur no charges for extra data downloads or route calculations. So this is ideal for when you go abroad or into areas with poor mobile phone coverage, but can also be useful to save battery life or other network charges.
